Angling for the Ecosystem in Action

Jarian Mitchell just proved what it means to fish with heart and purpose. On the Sacramento River, he spotted a turtle tethered to a log by abandoned fishing line — weak and fighting for its life. In that moment, Jarian became its hero. He cut the line, set the turtle free, and watched it swim strong and alive once more. But he didn’t stop there. He stayed, cleaned the shoreline, and hauled away all the tangled gear he could find — protecting the river for every creature that calls it home. This is the power of one angler who lives our motto.

Jarian, thank you for showing us the difference one person can make. Anglers: Let’s follow his lead. Spot the harm. Take action. Leave the river better than we found it. Our waterways — and the wildlife that depend on them — are counting on us. #WaterbirdHabitatProject #AnglingForTheEcosystem #SacramentoRiverHeroes
