A big win for wildlife! Teaming up with American River Lost and Found and the Sacramento Area Creeks Council, we removed over 2 miles of dangerous, abandoned fencing near Rossmoor Bar. Installed decades ago to protect plantings, the old fencing became rusty, overgrown, and a serious threat—trapping fish, entangling a buck that drowned, and risking injury to beavers, otters, and river wildlife with its sharp spikes. On December 7, a scouting team in boots and waders braved the cold air and water armed with wire cutters, pruners, shovels, and post pullers. On December 14, a crew of 18 dedicated volunteers returned to finish the job, clearing over two miles of hazardous fencing from the waters and shores. Just in time, as the following week, river flows surged past 11,000 cfs! Huge thanks to our partners and all the volunteers for their tireless effort and teamwork protecting wildlife!
