Come join us for a day on the American River grabbing gear to help keep waterbirds and safe!

On Saturday, June 13, the Waterbird Habitat Project is heading out for another Diving for the Waterbirds event. We’ll start at the Fair Oaks Bridge near the Upper Sunrise Access and paddle downstream to Rossmoor Bar.

On the surface, our team will be in kayaks and on paddleboards, ready to receive the gear as it comes up. Diver Matt Spruitenburg will dive below the surface, bringing up lost hooks, lines, and tackle so we can get it out of the river!

Teaming Up to Go Deep

It’s hands-on, it’s on the water, and it makes a real difference. By clearing this gear, we’re helping prevent injuries to waterbirds and beavers that live along the American River.

Whether you love to paddle, want to help on the surface, or just want to be part of something meaningful, we’d love to have you with us. It’s a great way to spend a morning on the river while doing important conservation work.

The event runs Saturday, June 13 from 9am to 1pm. We put in at the Fair Oaks Bridge (Red Bridge) at the Upper Sunrise Recreation Access and take out at Rossmoor Bar.

Bring your own kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or boat. Safety first — lifejacket required at all times, plus sun protection (hat, glasses, layers, or sunscreen) and gloves. Bring water and snacks!

Come spend a morning on the water with us — we can’t wait to see you out there!
